The man who injured his father in a heated family row on Tuesday morning in Għargħur has been granted bail after pleading not guilty to multiple charges he faces. Steven Azzopardi, a 31-year old Għargħur resident, was arrested shortly after the incident which broke out at 9.00am in a field just off Sqaq ix-Xaqquf in his hometown. During his arraignment on Wednesday, it emerged that father and son had allegedly quarrelled over some family property. As the situation escalated, the younger man reportedly fired a weapon, with the bullet striking his father’s shoulder. He was arrested shortly after the episode and was today marched to court facing 15 charges, including attempted homicide, causing slight injuries to the victim, whilst being in possession of a firearm. The man pleaded not guilty and was granted bail by duty magistrate Marse-Ann Farrugia. Inspector Roderick Spiteri prosecuted. Lawyers Franco Debono and Amadeus Cachia were defence counsel. Read more
