Bishkek, Oct. 22, 2018. /Kabar/. The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the University of Central Asia (UCA) held the Youth Mountain Forum (YMF 2018) at the National Museum of Fine Arts. The Youth Forum is organized as an important part of the World Mountain Forum (WMF), which will be held from October 23-26, 2018, the UNICEF in the Kyrgyz Republic reported. Young people from 13 mountainous countries are preparing a “Call to Action” document, taking into account their vision and the impact of climate change on children. Nineteen young participants from various mountain regions, including Central Asia, as well as Latin America, Africa, Asia-Pacific and Europe, participated in the forum to make a significant contribution to discussions on the sustainable development of mountain areas and environmental protection. As a result of the forum, participants will present a “Call to Action” document, which will tell how young people see work with respect to climate, the importance of involving young people in developing programs and mitigating the effects and adaptation to climate change taking into account the interests of children. “The reality that is not often mentioned in political and financial circles is that children are most at risk from the effects of climate change. Children are most at risk simply because they are children. Only through the joint efforts of the government, academics, non-governmental partners and youth can we make a significant contribution to the sustainable development of mountain regions,” Ted Chaiban, Director of Programmes for UNICEF (UNICEF headquarters, New York) told. If climate-related investments are focused on the specific needs of children, they can lead to high developmental benefits for children. UNICEF and its partners are working with young people from different countries to develop and recommend concrete steps that governments, politicians, international organizations, youth activists and children can take to protect children today and in the future.
