Motorists driving in the Salina area got more than they bargained for on Saturday morning, when a stretch of road between Kennedy Grove and the Coast Road ended up underwater. Cars inched along the stretch as water muddy water lapped up their doors and bonnets, with a heavy bout of rainfall seemingly proving to be too much for the road, which was rebuilt just a few years ago. By 11.30am the flooding had subsided and workers were at work clearing the debris. While clearing gravel was a relatively straightforward affair, returning a raft of wandering ducks back to their nearby nature reserve habitat might prove to be more tricky. This is not the first time the area has flooded. In 2016, the stretch of road had also ended up submerged following heavy rains, with Transport Malta saying blocked rainwater culverts were to blame. Times of Malta has asked authorities what caused the road to flood this time round. Spotted something worth sharing? Get in touch on mynews@timesofmalta.com Read more
