Representatives of the delegations of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states visited the Ata-Beyit memorial complex and laid flowers at the monument to the Kyrgyz citizens killed during the years of political repression in 1937-1938. The press service of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic reported that members of the delegations also honored the memory of great writer Chyngyz Aitmatov, laying wreaths at his grave. Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh (Kyrgyz Parliament) Kanybek Imanaliyev, Abdyvahap Nurbayev, Natalia Nikitenko were accompanying the guests. The SCO members were told about the history of the Ata-Beyit memorial complex. In 1937, 137 people were shot dead, 70 years later, were reburied, and in 1991, this memorial was erected in memory of them. The brief information indicates that such outstanding state and public figures as Jusup Abdyrakhmanov, Torokul Aitmatov, Kasym Tynystanov, and others were buried there. At the proposal of Aitmatov, this memorial was called “Ata Beyit” (“The Grave of Fathers”). In addition, the members of the delegations of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states visited the Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts named after Aitiyev.
