25 years ago - The Sunday Times Sunday, April 24, 1994 Vegetables to be testedfor pesticide residue The Board of Standards is soon to start testing vegetables to establish the level of residue from pesticides, Food, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Lawrence Gatt said yesterday. Mr Gatt was speaking at a poorly-attended public forum held by the Consumers’ Union to discuss the Bill for Consumer Protection. He said a lot of amendments were to be made to the Bill. One of these amendments was to protect the media and other bodies which made public the names of companies who did not give a good service to consumers. The minister expressed disappointment at the “lack of response by individuals to the two White Papers and the law which had been published”. Three youths on the run The police are searching for two Egyptians who escaped from their cell at police headquarters on Friday afternoon. They are Iddigini Ibrahim Afras Ibrahim and Elmanzahir Ashraf Mohammed. The two were being kept by thepolice after they were found in Malta without a permit.
