Yasmeen Al-Maimani, 29, on Sunday. Al-Maimani made her first official flight between Hail International Airport and Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz International Airport in Qassim, becoming the first Saudi woman to fly a commercial aircraft as a co-pilot with Nesma Airlines. She received the opportunity after the airline advertised vacant positions for co-pilots on its New Pilots Program — 11 were accepted, including Al-Maimani, who has a commercial pilot’s license (CPL) from the US. Following their acceptance into the program, the pilots underwent a four-stage training regimen at Prince Sultan Aviation Academy in Jeddah, including practice on multi-engine planes with multiple crews. Ground training using an ATR 72-600 aircraft at Nesma Airlines’ training center in Hail followed, before progressing to simulators in Jakarta and Madrid.   اربطي حزام الأمان وتمسكي بالمقود واستعدي من اليوم .. أحلامنا تتحقق بإرادتنا وطموحنا يصل عنان السماء. معاً نحتفل بأول مساعد طيار #ياسمين_الميمني، وغداً نحتفل بمرور عام على قرار السماح بإصدار رخص القيادة للنساء#نسما_للطيران #عام_على_قيادة_المرأة pic.twitter.com/MTeNqEhT09 — نسما للطيران (@NesmaAirlines) June 23, 2019 Main category: Saudi ArabiaTags: Yasmeen Al-MaimaniGeneral Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA)Nesma Airlines Female Saudi pilot flies highFlying high as first Saudi pilot of world’s largest aircraft

US media company gets slammed for calling dried cuttlefish Singaporeans' alternative to chewing gum

Talk about a blur sotong moment.  In an attempt to paint Singapore as an exotic Asian city, US media company Tastemade ruffled the feathers of some people online after they claimed that Singaporeans have been eating dried cuttlefish as a chewing gum substitute.  In a Facebook video posted on June 7, Tastemade Travel featured the snack they found in Chinatown.  Describing the snack as a «weird gum alternative that won't freshen your breath», the video goes on to say that dried cuttlefish is a creative way to go around the ban on chewing gum import, which was implemented in 1992.  There is something fishy about this gum alternative...

Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to serve as guest of honour during National Day celebrations

The Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, will arrive in Seychelles on his first state visit on June 28, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Monday. The Prime Minister will be in the island nation in the western Indian Ocean on a two-day visit. The highlight of his visit will come when he serves as guest of honour at the Seychelles’ national day celebration ceremony on June 29. Seychelles became independent from the United Kingdom on June 29, 1976, and since 2015 the day is celebrated as the National Day. Several activities are organised to commemorate the day, including a military parade at the Unity Stadium at Roche Caiman a central district on the main island of Mahe. Gonsalves will meet with President Danny Faure and other high-level government officials during his visit. Bilateral discussions are expected to focus on areas of cooperation in the blue economy, tourism, environment, fisheries among others. As small islands developing states (SIDS), both Seychelles and St. Vincent and the Grenadines share similar development challenges and concerns. Both countries are firm advocates of climate change and the vulnerabilities of SIDS. Gonsalves is now into his second term as Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, after his Unity Labour Party (ULP) successfully contested the general elections of 2001 and 2005. Seychelles and St. Vincent and the Grenadines established diplomatic relations in May 2017.

Man takes photo of commuter on MRT hogging seat with bag, gets flamed instead

A man who tried to «name and shame» a fellow commuter got a taste of his own medicine when he was attacked online instead. A photo posted by All Singapore Stuff on June 24 showed a man in the MRT with his bag placed on the seat beside him. The photo, which was submitted by a reader known only as Eddy, was captioned, «Another person whose bag needs its own seat.» While the faces of the other people in the frame had been censored, the subject of Eddy's photo had his face exposed for all to see. Unfortunately for Eddy, he did not get any validation from commenters online. Instead, most of the 993 comments on the photo were defending the «seat hogger» and questioning Eddy's motivations behind the picture. Commenters pointed out that the reflection on the windows showed that the train cabin still had a number of empty seats and said that it was not a big deal for the man to have his bag on the seat.
