Defence minister Rajnath Singh has approved the proposal to admit girls in Sainik Schools from the 2021-2022 academic session in a phased manner, in yet another move for gender equality in the male-dominated environs of the over 15-lakh armed forces. The 31 Sainik Schools in the country provide around 25% of the cadets selected for the National Defence Academy.
