A Pakistani cabinet minister says Islamabad will continue to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar under a 15-year agreement, despite the severing of diplomatic ties with Qatar by Saudi Arabia and some other countries.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the federal minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, said Qatar and Pakistan last year signed a $1 billion agreement, under which Qatar's Liquefied Gas Company Limited will sell LNG from 2016 to year 2031 to state-run Pakistan State Oil.
He said since no sanctions have been imposed on Qatar by the United Nations, Pakistan and Qatar were bound to abide by the agreement.
Qatar has released an initial report into the alleged hack of its state-run news agency, an incident which helped spark a diplomatic crisis between the energy-rich country and Arab nations.
The Qatari Interior Ministry said late Wednesday that the website of the Qatar News Agency was initially hacked in April with "high techniques and innovative methods."
It said hackers installed a file and then published a fake news item attributed to Qatar's emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, just after midnight May 24.
The ministry did not say who it suspected carried out the attack. It also thanked the FBI and the British National Commission for Combating Crime for assisting it in its investigation.
The alleged fake news item, which had Sheikh Tamim making controversial comments on Iran and Israel, immediately was picked up by Saudi and Emirati media, laying the groundwork for the crisis that began Monday (05.06.2017.)
Kuwait's emir has traveled to Qatar and met that country's leader as part of his efforts to mediate an end to a crisis that's seen Arab nations cut ties to the energy-rich country and attempt to isolate it.
Kuwait's Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah was met planeside by Qatar's emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, when he arrived on Wednesday night.
The two held talks, though details of their discussions were not released. Sheikh Sabah earlier Wednesday traveled to Dubai where he met with Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Dubai's ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who also serves as prime minister and vice president of the UAE.
Sheikh Sabah also has traveled to Saudi Arabia in his efforts.

To mark its 10th anniversary, Gran Kaz, an entertainment company in Seychelles that has a casino, bars and grills and an art gallery, will host an international boxing tournament, featuring some of Seychelles' top boxers alongside a team from Russia on Friday starting 6 pm local time. The tournament will take place at Gran Kaz Bel Ombre, and Seychelles will have a team of eight Seychellois boxers who will fight against eight boxers from Rostov-on-Don City from Russia. Aside from the eight international bouts, there will be three additional exhibition fights featuring Seychellois boxers. «The event not only marks the beginning of a series of activities that Gran Kaz will be hosting to mark our 10th anniversary, but it also highlights our ongoing partnership with the Seychelles Boxing Federation, which began a little over two years ago,» said the public relations manager, Shama Amesbury, on Tuesday. Gran Kaz is a big supporter of local boxing and has sponsored several local competitions and brought in a new boxing ring and other equipment to help with the development of the sport locally. Amesbury said, «We are extremely excited to collaborate with them on this International Boxing Competition, which serves as the perfect kick-off to our anniversary celebrations.» The chairman of the Seychelles Boxing Federation (SBF), Jacques Bonne, said that Russia has very good boxers, who have trained at a high level, but the local boxers are well prepared and ready. «The public can expect to see some very good bouts and a very show from our local boxers and our opponents,» he added. The eight boxers who will feature for Seychelles include Kryan Laporte (60kg), Eric Mussard (67kg), Jovanie Bouzin (71kg), Joshua Cousin (75kg), Jade Micock (71kg), Dasheil Fanchette (80kg), Keddy Agnes (+92kg) and Ricardo Jouanneau (60kg). There are five other boxers who will compete in the exhibition matches, and they are Sebastiano Pirani, Mohamed Williams, Emery Molle, Romano Moustache, and Wes Jean Charles. The competition is being organised through a partnership between Gran Kaz, the Seychelles Boxing Federation, the Ministry for Youth and Sports and the Russian Embassy in Seychelles. The principal secretary for Sports, Ralph Jean-Louis said the Ministry wants to return boxing to its glory days of the 1980s. «This is why we are pushing on several fronts, not only by bringing boxers to Seychelles, but if you remember, last year we had four boxers who went to train in Russia, and two coaches who benefitted with training, so they can better prepare our boxers,» said Jean-Louis. He added that the Ministry wants to send boxers to Russia to train for a year so they can develop and represent Seychelles at the Olympic Games. Seychelles, an archipelago in the western Indian Ocean, has never won a gold medal at the Olympic Games.

EU Member States now have less than 2 years to complete their Next Generation EU (NGEU) investment and reform plans, with implementation advancing at varying rates across the EU. Some countries need to strengthen their administrative capacity to manage the investments. While NGEU offers significant support for the green and digital transitions, the recent Draghi Report on EU competitiveness stresses the need to invest more in strategic Sectors such as energy. As EU businesses face higher energy costs compared with competitors in the US or China, a major focus is likely to be on lowering energy prices. EU inflation, driven sharply upwards in part by rising energy prices, dropped to 2.4 % in August, and the EU economy began to recover in the first half of 2024, growing by 0.75 % compared with the first half of 2023. The latest economic indicators suggest weaker growth momentum in the months ahead. The previous edition of this quarterly infographic was published in June 2024. SINGAPORE — An 18-year-old man died after his motorcycle collided with an unknown vehicle in Loyang on the morning of Sept 27. The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the hit-and-run accident at about 9.20am. It occurred at the junction of Loyang Avenue and Cranwell Road, said SCDF. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic. A photo showing a blue tent in the aftermath of the accident was shared on Telegram group SGRoad Blocks/Traffic News. A motorcycle bearing a probation P-plate was seen lying on its side near the blue tent. Police investigations are ongoing. Traffic accidents claimed the lives of 136 people in 2023, a 25.9 per cent jump from the 108 deaths in 2022. Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable groups of road users. In 2023, motorcyclists or pillion riders were involved in more than half of all traffic accidents, and accounted for half of the deaths due to traffic accidents.
Grab's co-founder and CEO, Anthony Tan, went undercover as a private-hire driver and shared his experience in a LinkedIn post on Wednesday (Sept 25). By going on the ground, he aims to test the Grab driver app, get direct feedback from passengers and find areas of improvement that are potentially missed by teams not involved with ground operations. Tan assumed his role as driver on a Sunday afternoon and drove a GrabRentals Hyundai Kona EV. Throughout the vlog, the 41-year-old was candid about the user experience of Grab's driver app. He complimented the ease and accuracy of GrabMaps' lane detection features, but raised an issue with its automated safety messages. While they serve as good reminders, he noted how these messages would block his view of the map. Between «back-to-back» rides, Tan also shared feedback from his passengers. One customer told him her personal grievances regarding cancelled rides whenever drivers were too far away from her location. In comparison, she commended Grab's exclusive Premium feature for being fast and reliable whenever she was in a rush to get to her destination.
KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia’s Road Transport Department (JPJ) announced on Sept 27 that foreign-registered vehicles which have yet to install Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) tags by the Oct 1 deadline will still be allowed to enter Malaysia from Singapore. The announcement comes amid complaints in Singapore of delays and snags in the application process, and just three days ahead of the VEP requirement being implemented. “From Oct 1, 2024, the VEP enforcement will be implemented in phases. All Singapore-registered vehicles without a VEP may still enter Malaysia as usual,” JPJ director-general Aedy Fadly Ramli said in a statement on Sept 27. However, vehicle-owners may receive reminders from JPJ officers stationed in the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex in Johor Bahru and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex CIQ at the Second Link to immediately register, install and activate their VEP and radio frequency identification (RFID) tags. “Please be reminded that warning notices will be issued to owners of Singapore-registered private vehicles without VEPs before they leave Malaysia,” Datuk Aedy said.
