A Pakistani cabinet minister says Islamabad will continue to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar under a 15-year agreement, despite the severing of diplomatic ties with Qatar by Saudi Arabia and some other countries.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the federal minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, said Qatar and Pakistan last year signed a $1 billion agreement, under which Qatar's Liquefied Gas Company Limited will sell LNG from 2016 to year 2031 to state-run Pakistan State Oil.
He said since no sanctions have been imposed on Qatar by the United Nations, Pakistan and Qatar were bound to abide by the agreement.
Qatar has released an initial report into the alleged hack of its state-run news agency, an incident which helped spark a diplomatic crisis between the energy-rich country and Arab nations.
The Qatari Interior Ministry said late Wednesday that the website of the Qatar News Agency was initially hacked in April with "high techniques and innovative methods."
It said hackers installed a file and then published a fake news item attributed to Qatar's emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, just after midnight May 24.
The ministry did not say who it suspected carried out the attack. It also thanked the FBI and the British National Commission for Combating Crime for assisting it in its investigation.
The alleged fake news item, which had Sheikh Tamim making controversial comments on Iran and Israel, immediately was picked up by Saudi and Emirati media, laying the groundwork for the crisis that began Monday (05.06.2017.)
Kuwait's emir has traveled to Qatar and met that country's leader as part of his efforts to mediate an end to a crisis that's seen Arab nations cut ties to the energy-rich country and attempt to isolate it.
Kuwait's Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah was met planeside by Qatar's emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, when he arrived on Wednesday night.
The two held talks, though details of their discussions were not released. Sheikh Sabah earlier Wednesday traveled to Dubai where he met with Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Dubai's ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who also serves as prime minister and vice president of the UAE.
Sheikh Sabah also has traveled to Saudi Arabia in his efforts.

The Peace pillar – The European Union (EU) is a long-standing and active partner for peace and governance in Africa, providing both substantial financial and operational support. Cooperation between the EU and Africa in the area of peace and security promotes Africa's ownership – the principle of 'African solutions to African problems' – and recognises the African Union as a central player in this field. EU common security and defence policy missions and operations, together with the European Peace Facility and the Global Europe instrument, back African peace operations, mediation efforts and institutional capacity building. However, this partnership faces increasing challenges from regional fragmentation, shifting alliances, and intensifying geopolitical competition on the continent. This publication is part of a series on the Africa-EU partnership and its four pillars: Prosperity (economy and connectivity; natural resources, health, research and education), Peace (security and governance), People (migration and mobility) and Planet (multilateralism). On 30 July 2025, the European Commission published a proposal for a European fisheries and aquaculture statistics (EFAS) regulation. The proposed regulation modernises and streamlines the legal framework for EU fisheries and aquaculture statistics by repealing five existing regulations whose provisions date back around 30 years. Aside from providing legal simplification, the proposal expands the statistical coverage, reduces the volume of data flagged as confidential, and addresses data inconsistencies. A significant change is the reuse of information from existing EU databases. This includes the reuse of data on catches, collected as part of the fisheries control system, rather than asking Member States for this information again. Source : © European Union, 2025 - EP
Austria's national recovery and resilience plan (NRRP) was updated for the second time on 8 July 2025. The plan totals €4 187 million, of which €3 961 million is financed through Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) grants and the difference through national resources. To implement the plan, Austria is leveraging further amounts beyond EU support from the national budget. The Austrian economy has been in a slowdown since the end of the second quarter of 2022. A lack of expansionary impetus both domestically and abroad led to a decline in economic output in 2023 and 2024. According to recent estimates, Austrian gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to grow slightly (by 0.3 %-0.4 %) in 2025 and by 1.2 % in 2026. In Austria's NRRP, 56 % of EU resources are allocated to the green transition, and 36 % to the digital transformation. The plan includes a significant number of reforms with the potential to support lasting structural changes in other areas, such as the primary healthcare system, less red tape for business, and modernisation of the public administration. By the end of October 2025, Austria had received €2 812 million in pre-financing and two result-based payments, which is above the current EU average (56.4 %). Following a positive assessment, the third payment should be disbursed soon. This briefing is one in a series covering all EU Member States. Fourth edition. The 'NGEU delivery' briefings are updated at key stages throughout the lifecycle of the plans. Source : © European Union, 2025 - EP
