Governing cooperation between the parties in Greenland's parliament, the Inatsisartut, has broken down completely. Yesterday the Speaker and the leadership of the parliament called the figures involved together for a meeting. Politicians who had still been willing to work within the joint government were given the chance to state their positions. In the end there was no basis left for continuing the shared administration. The chamber is now left without a governing majority to steer legislation. Rebuilding the coalition or going before the electorate appear to be the realistic options ahead. The split marks the sharpest rupture in Greenlandic politics since the current government was formed. Whoever regroups first in the coming days will hold the initiative in the parliament.
