Sarawak's cooperative movement ended the last financial year with combined income of RM486.93 million. The total represents an 18 percent jump on the previous year. Officials in Kuching described the numbers as encouraging. The accompanying message is that growth alone will not be enough going forward. Cooperatives are being urged to enlarge the scale of their business operations. Capturing a bigger share of the market is the other part of that challenge. The task now is to turn a year of rising revenue into bigger ventures that can hold their own in competitive markets.
