Packaged cooking oil and sugar produced in Malaysia have turned up for sale at a market in Narathiwat, southern Thailand. Both items are controlled goods back home, which raises an obvious question: how did they cross the border and land on shelves in the neighbouring country? Kuala Lumpur has so far offered no explanation. The sighting has fuelled talk that subsidised goods are being moved out of Malaysia in quantity.
