Istanbul residents ran into electricity cuts on Friday, October 9, with 25 districts affected across the city. People immediately went looking for answers, and searches asking when the power would return shot up. The two companies that supply the city, AYEDAŞ and BEDAŞ, put out statements addressing exactly that question. Their announcements gave expected restoration times for the districts they serve, with AYEDAŞ covering much of the Asian side and BEDAŞ the European side of the Bosphorus. Cuts of this kind usually trace back to maintenance or repair work on the network. Whatever the cause, interruptions like these upset routines quickly, since fridges and lifts sit idle while businesses scramble to keep operating. Both companies pointed residents to their official channels for updates rather than unverified claims circulating online. For thousands of households, the morning's main question stayed the same: when do the lights come back?
