ZACC, Mines ministry partner to curb mining corruption
Zimbabwe's anti-corruption watchdog has signed a cooperation deal with the Ministry of Mines in a bid to clean up the mining sector. The pact requires ministry officials to sign integrity pledges committing them to ethical conduct in their work. It also mandates regular reviews of the ministry's systems and risk audits meant to expose vulnerabilities before they are exploited. Joint training programmes will build capacity on both sides, pairing commission staff with ministry personnel. A steering committee has been set up to track implementation and keep the partnership honest. Mining is central to Zimbabwe's economy, which is precisely why it has attracted so much graft over the years. If the commitments are actually enforced, opaque deals could become harder to conclude. Critics, though, will wait for results rather than take the signing at face value.
The agreement provides for integrity pledges by ministry officials, mandatory systems reviews and risk audits, joint training programmes and a steering committee to oversee implementation. The post ZACC, Mines ministry partner to curb mining corruption appeared first on Newsday .
