Malaysia has done away with the re-entry visa facility for short-term social visits, a change that took effect on September 1. The facility had applied to all foreign nationals who require a visa to enter the country. Holders could exit Malaysia and return without submitting a fresh application each time, so long as the visa remained valid. Frequent visitors used it for quick trips home or for other short absences from the country. With the facility terminated, every departure now requires a new visa application for re-entry. Travelers and their employers will have to build the extra paperwork and fees into their plans. Immigration authorities have not indicated whether any replacement arrangement will follow.
