Police, the KNB national security committee and special forces units have carried out searches and detentions in Kazakhstan's Mangistau region. The operation covered several locations across the western region. Officers seized 232.97 grams of marijuana in the course of the raids, according to the regional police department. The department's figures were passed to journalists and published by the news site NUR.KZ. Officials have not said how many people were detained or what charges they might face. The quantity involved, under a quarter of a kilo, points to a case centred on individuals rather than a large trafficking ring.
