Her stay in the property began in 1988, according to the singer, and she has kept living there ever since. The disagreement turned into a lawsuit after she refused to let his representatives enter the house for an inspection. Wonder needs that inspection in order to renew the insurance policy covering the building. The relationship between the two was never a simple landlord matter, because they are said to have been engaged at one time. The suit now puts that old connection up against a very practical demand: access to the property for the sake of the insurance. The woman has so far kept the door closed to his team. A court will have to decide whether decades of residence outweigh the owner's need to inspect and insure his house.
