NPP challenges Sam George’s rural telephony claims, demands full project status report
Ghana's opposition NPP has taken issue with Communications Minister Sam George's portrayal of the previous government's rural telephony record. In a statement dated September 8, 2026 and signed by chairman Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the party's Policy Committee on Communications and Digitalization demanded a full status report on the Ghana Rural Telephony and Digital Inclusion Project. The report should show how many sites were built, how many are connected and how many actually operate, the committee said. In its view, the record does not support claims of neglect.
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Policy Committee on Communications and Digitalization has challenged Communications Minister Sam George’s characterization of the previous administration’s record on rural telephony. The Committee is demanding a full status report on the Ghana Rural Telephony and Digital Inclusion Project, including the number of sites constructed, connected, and operational. In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and signed by its Chairman, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Committee said the record did not support claims of neglect.
