Egypt's Dar al-Ifta has clarified that Muslims who cannot perform some parts of prayer because of illness or old age may pray according to their ability. The ruling came from Sheikh Oweida Osman, the fatwa secretary at the house, in reply to Aida, a woman from Alexandria who can no longer prostrate because of her age. He told her there is no harm in praying seated when bowing or prostrating is no longer possible.
