AACR, Romania's civil aeronautical authority, has built an anti-drone system that can stop an unmanned aircraft without ever firing a shot. The technology listens to radio signals in the area, spots the drone and works out what kind of machine it is dealing with. From there it can interfere with the link between the drone and its operator, leaving the device cut off from commands. That matters for civil aviation, since shooting a drone down over an airport or a city could cause more damage than the drone itself. The system would be used only in specific situations, giving authorities a way to protect the skies without adding new risks on the ground.
