More than 100 students and teachers in Bayelsa State have completed training in first aid and CPR. The course teaches them what to do when someone collapses, bleeds heavily or stops breathing, in the minutes before an ambulance or doctor arrives. Both students and staff took part, putting schools at the centre of the effort. The idea is to have someone nearby who can keep a victim alive until professional help takes over.
