Cleaner finds man 'sleeping' in Jalan Besar alley, learns he is dead

A cleaner found a 51-year-old man lying motionless in an alley near 36 Upper Weld Road on Monday (Sept 7) afternoon.He called the police after finding that the man had stopped breathing, according to a report by Shin Min Daily News on Wednesday.The incident happened at around 4.25pm, and the alley was subsequently cordoned off.A man who goes by Lu, 70, told the Chinese newspaper that he saw police cars arrived when cycling past the area.At around 5pm, at least two police cars arrived, and a blue tent was seen covering the body, with several members of the public gathered nearby, Shin Min reported.A male cleaner who declined to be named said he had seen the man sleeping on a metal box in the alley on Sunday afternoon.The man was still breathing then, and the cleaner thought he might have been drunk.The cleaner said he had worked in the area for nearly four years and often saw intoxicated people sleeping in the alley.The police confirmed to AsiaOne that the man was found motionless on a bench and was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.
