Nakhchivan, an Azerbaijani exclave cut off from the rest of the country, has spent three decades leaning on subsidies from Baku to get by. That is now set to change. Planners are rebuilding the territory as a manufacturing base along the Middle Corridor, the trade route linking Asia to Europe through the South Caucasus. Officials hope the new transport links will finally give the enclave an economy that stands on its own.
