Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada handed out emergency backpacks and gas detectors at the launch of a new safety program in the Obrera neighborhood. The initiative, called "Cuidarnos en Unidad Previene Riesgos," is meant to reduce hazards in the capital's housing complexes. At the event, Brugada recalled that September 19 marks 41 years since the 1985 earthquake and nine years since the 2017 one. She tied that history to the need for residents to stay prepared.
