The author can live with a transitional, installation-style government, but only as a temporary arrangement. Extending it for five years is another matter and, in his view, unacceptable. A democracy cannot stay in suspension that long, the argument runs. Short-term fixes are tolerable; a five-year wait for normal politics is not.
