Nigerian states are sitting on solid mineral deposits worth more than $700bn, yet they see almost none of that money. The sector employs few workers and its contribution to national GDP stays small. That gap leaves the states without the jobs and income their underground wealth could generate. Turning the deposits into real earnings would take investment and coordination that have not arrived so far.
