Patients with Friedreich's ataxia in Ireland are set to have the drug Skyclarys reimbursed from 1 October, according to Fianna Fáil. The HSE approved funding for the treatment last month, clearing the way for access. Skyclarys has been shown to ease the effects of the neuromuscular disease, which progressively damages movement and muscle control. A firm start date will come as relief to families who have waited a long time for the drug to become affordable.
