Chile and Bhutan have shown that rabies can be beaten, largely through steady dog vaccination drives and easy access to treatment after bites. Their progress proves the disease is not limited to wealthy countries. India still records a heavy toll each year and has set itself a 2030 elimination goal. Standing in the way are patchy vaccine supply and hard-to-reach stray dog populations, especially outside big cities.
