Man who threw rock at Police Cantonment Complex glass door charged with vandalism
A 44-year-old man who allegedly shattered a glass door at Police Cantonment Complex by throwing a rock at it on Tuesday (Sept 15) was charged in court with vandalism on Thursday (Sept 17) morning.Saravanan Arulanandan Pillay, who appeared in court via video conferencing, was ordered to be remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for a medical assessment.Speaking through a court interpreter, Saravanan sought the court's permission to make a phone call to his mother and had his request granted.His request to post bail was deferred till the next hearing on Oct 1.Police said in a news release on Wednesday night that Saravanan was believed to be intoxicated at the time of the incident.He is accused of throwing a half-kilogramme rock at the glass door of PCC's main entrance, causing it to shatter.The offence of vandalism carries a penalty of up to three years' jail and a fine of up to $2,000. Those found guilty of the said offence may also receive up to eight strokes of the cane.[[nid:745336
