At least 26 people were killed in several days of fighting along the border region between Sudan and South Sudan. The UN Interim Security Force for Abyei has strengthened its presence on the ground in response to the deadly clashes. Abyei remains one of the most contested strips of land between the two countries, patrolled by the UN mission deployed there.
