Man arrested within 4 hours for allegedly breaking into, stealing from shop in East Coast

A 53-year-old man was arrested on Saturday (Sept 19) for his alleged involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft at a shop in East Coast.Police said in a news release on Sunday (Sept 20) night that the incident, involving a shop along East Coast Road, happened at about 1.40pm on Saturday.According to the police, the victim reported that cash amounting to about $100 was stolen from the premises.Officers from Bedok Police Division and the Police Operations Command Centre identified the man through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras and closed-circuit television (CCTV).He was arrested within four hours of the report.The 53-year-old will be charged in court on Monday with the offence of housebreaking and theft.If found guilty of the said offence, the man could face up to 10 years imprisonment and a fine.The police reminded members of the public to adopt crime prevention measures such as secure doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and closed-shackle padlocks when leaving their premises unattended, even if for a short while.
