Haze watch: Singapore starts week with better air quality, PSI remains in moderate range

Singapore kicked off the new week with improved air quality as 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) stayed in the moderate range for all regions across Singapore on Monday (Sept 21) morning.The central region, which recorded unhealthy air quality since 1pm on Saturday, returned to the moderate range at 7pm on Sunday.At 10am on Monday, the PSI ranged from 68 to 86, in the moderate range.Meanwhile, one-hour PM2.5 concentration reading is between 26 and 41. This is in the normal band.In its daily haze update on Sunday evening, the National Environment Agency said the country's 24-hour PSI forecast is expected to remain in the moderate to low-unhealthy range.This is due to the prevailing winds blowing from the southeast, which has brought smoke haze from Sumatra to Singapore.It also noted that moderate to dense smoke plumes were observed from fires in Kalimantan."There is a risk of smoke haze affecting Singapore," NEA added.Members of the public can refer to the one-hour PM2.5 reading if planning to participate in outdoor activities immediately, or the 24-hour PSI forecast for next-day activities.
