Companies registered under the Far East's preferential regimes paid 821 billion rubles in taxes over the past five years, Far East Development Minister Alexei Chekunkov said. The tax breaks and other perks tied to those regimes cost the budget 400 billion rubles over the same period. His point was that the incentives brought in roughly twice what they gave away. The regimes, which include free port status and territories of advanced development, remain the government's main lever for pulling investors into the region.
