Extending the shipping season on the Northern Sea Route would cut housing construction times in Chukotka by a year, according to regional governor Vladislav Kuznetsov. A longer navigation window would also let more supplies reach the remote territory before the ice closes in. Kuznetsov added that residents would get fresher and more affordable products as a result.
