Mexican boxer Arturo 'Lobito' Torres has died at the age of 26 after collapsing in the ring and slipping into a coma. The episode took place on Saturday 19 September, in the middle of the fight Torres was contesting against Gilberto García. He went down during the bout, and medical staff worked on him at ringside before he was rushed for emergency care. He never regained consciousness, and his death was confirmed after days spent in a coma. Torres was young, known in Mexican boxing circles by his nickname Lobito, with a career still ahead of him. A death inside the ropes always reopens the debate over medical screening and how quickly a referee should stop a fight. This one is unlikely to pass without the same questions being asked in his home country.
