Dundalk FC looks set to add a senior women's team before long, judging by comments from women's team manager Phil Cox. Cox says the club will soon be able to put a side out at senior level. Right now, Dundalk's women play in the LOI Women's Development League. The development league is where clubs gear up for the step up to the League of Ireland women's ranks. A senior team would hand players at the club a route to the higher tiers without having to move away. How quickly that happens will hinge on the progress of the current group. Even so, Cox's remarks point to work being done behind the scenes. For a club long associated with the men's game in Louth, a senior women's side would mark a clear widening of its football operation.
