Bukit Panjang flat fire: 77-year-old woman dies in hospital

A 77-year-old woman who was taken to Woodlands Hospital after a fire broke out in a Bukit Panjang flat on Sept 28 has died, the police told AsiaOne."She was conveyed unconscious to the hospital where she subsequently passed away," the police said in an updated statement on Wednesday (Sept 30).The fire, which involved items in the living room of a sixth-floor unit at Block 126 Pending Road, was reported at about 3pm on Monday.Firefighters found the elderly woman unconscious in the living room.An Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedic and emergency medical technicians performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on her before taking her to the hospital.Another person, a 62-year-old man from a neighbouring unit, was taken separately to the Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation.About 70 people from the affected block were evacuated as a precaution. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
