NNB concludes Drug Education and Awareness Training in Bougainville
The National Narcotics Bureau of Papua New Guinea has finished a week of drug education and awareness training in Buka. The programme ran across seven days in the town that serves as the administrative centre of Bougainville. Sessions were aimed at teaching participants what drugs do to the body and how trafficking takes hold in communities. Local people taking part also heard about the legal consequences of possession. The bureau treats education work as a core part of its approach alongside enforcement. Officers see courses of this kind as a way to reach communities far from the capital, Port Moresby. The announcement of the training's conclusion appeared on the Post Courier website. Further outreach is expected as the bureau tries to widen its awareness work beyond Buka.
