The Uch-Kurgan hydroelectric power plant will see its installed capacity rise from 198 to 216 megawatts once its modernisation is completed by the end of 2026. The jump of 18 megawatts comes from upgrades to a station that has been running for decades. Refurbishing ageing Soviet-era hydropower plants has become the standard approach in Central Asia, where demand for electricity keeps growing. Once the work is done, the renovated plant will feed more power into the grid without any new construction being needed. Modernisation of this kind typically covers turbines and control systems, extending the station's working life by years. An extra 18 megawatts is a modest gain on paper, but for an older facility it can mark a real improvement in both output and reliability.
