More than 1,000 farmed fish have died at an aquaculture project run by the Leosibe Association group in Timor-Leste. The group operates in Ritabou village, in the Maliana administrative post of Bobonaru municipality in the west of the country. Its representative, Augusto Caetano Barreto de Jesus, said the fish died because the area has not had enough water over the past two months. Without regular water flow, conditions in the ponds deteriorated and the losses kept climbing. Aquaculture is the group's main source of work, so the deaths cut straight into the income members had been counting on. The group is now left to weigh its options until the water supply is restored.
