Cristiano Ronaldo came within moments of walking out on his national team, according to Russian media reports. Journalists say the head of the football federation and coach Jorge Jesus caught him at the airport and personally appealed to him to stay, right before his flight took off. The last-minute persuasion appears to have worked, since Ronaldo remains with the squad. Neither party has given a full account of the exchange.
