Nearly 5 in 10 uncertain that workers will be protected amid new tech era: AsiaOne survey

As Singapore looks to harness frontier technologies including artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous vehicles for nation growth, an AsiaOne survey has found that nearly five in 10 people are uncertain if workers will be protected during inevitable job changes.Prime Minister Lawrence Wong had affirmed at the National Day Rally (NDR) 2026 on Aug 23 that the Government will retrain and support affected workers and help them transition into new roles."We will ensure that every worker shares in the fruits of Singapore's progress," he added.AsiaOne polled 1,258 people from Aug 25 to Sept 7 to understand their sentiments towards PM Wong's NDR speech.Of them, 47 per cent indicated that they are slightly or not confident at all in the Government's ability to protect workers and manage job disruptions caused by new technologies.
