A Singaporean, who was found with two vaporisers and 210 Kpods at Woodlands Checkpoint on Feb 6, was sentenced to three years' jail and five strokes of the cane on Friday (Oct 2).Png Swee Sheng, 39, was first charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act (MDA) on Feb 10. He faced one count of importing a controlled drug, and another count of consumption of drug outside Singapore.Etomidate, which was then temporarily listed as a Class C controlled drug under the Act, has since been delisted and placed under a new category in the Tobacco and Vaporisers Control Act called "specified psychoactive substance". Court documents seen by AsiaOne stated that Png was driving into Singapore via Woodlands Checkpoint at about 5.45am when he was stopped by Immigration and Checkpoints Authority officers for a search of his vehicle.
