Israel's relations with several Western allies have already been strained by the Gaza war. The worsening situation in the occupied West Bank is now adding to the friction, and it comes just ahead of October elections in which Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to face stiff competition. His right-wing government keeps building and expanding settlements despite their illegality under international law. Settler attacks are testing how much more the West is willing to accept.
