A community group from south Kerry that bought its own pub has been named the overall winner of the 2026 Kerry Community Awards. The honours were handed out at a gala evening that gathered groups from around the county under one roof. The pub purchase caught attention because locals pooled their own money to keep the premises alive instead of watching it go dark. The building now anchors village life, giving people a shared place to meet that no longer depends on an outside owner. Judges looked for projects that answered a real local need, and this one clearly fit the brief. The night itself gave volunteers across Kerry a rare moment of public credit for work that usually happens quietly. For the south Kerry group, the title confirms that the gamble of buying the pub has been vindicated.
