Moroccan translator and university professor Ibrahim Al-Khatib believes translators are the ones who make world literature, because they rewrite books and carry them to readers who would otherwise never reach them. Over the decades he has broadened the Arabic readership for writers such as Borges, Goytisolo, and Paul Bowles, along with critical studies from influential pens. His latest book, The Last of the Moriscos, turns to Juan Goytisolo and presents a side of the writer, long tied to Morocco, that has gone largely unseen.
