Relatives of flydubai captain Smit Machchhar have recounted a night when nobody in the household got any sleep. The ordeal, as the family tells it, kept everyone awake and anxious until morning came. Waiting for news was the hardest part, with the worry only growing as the hours passed. Their account looks at the episode from the family's side rather than the airline's, describing how powerless they felt while it played out. Sleepless stretches of that kind, they suggest, stay with people long after the event itself is over. The family's words capture the strain the situation placed on those closest to the captain.
