Himzo Begović survived what he calls the worst night of his life when floodwater tore through his village. Speaking in a video recorded after the disaster, he says the flooding was worse than the war he lived through. He escaped by climbing out through a window as the water swallowed everything around him. Under a walnut tree, he spotted a dead woman whose leg was tangled in building material. He recognised her as Rahima Begović. His account captures the chaos of that night, with people fleeing in darkness through water that rose without warning. Testimonies like his are only now surfacing as survivors piece together what happened. The village is left to bury its dead and count what the flood has taken.
