Lekki port tightens truck controls to ease congestion
Lekki Deep Sea Port and the stakeholders around it are rolling out stricter controls on truck movement through the corridor in Lagos state. The centrepiece is an e-call-up system that schedules when hauliers may approach the port gates. Trucks are also being directed into designated parks, where they wait off the access road until their slot comes up. The aim is to stop trailers from lining the expressway and choking traffic for everyone else using it. Stakeholders at the port have backed the measure, arguing that congestion around the facility threatens both cargo flow and road safety. Lagos has tried call-up systems before, most visibly on the Apapa corridor, with results that were mixed but instructive. Whether the Lekki version holds up will probably come down to how consistently it is enforced.
