Zagreb police have opened a criminal investigation into the neglect and abuse of a dog in the Srednjaci neighbourhood. The case became public after residents stepped in themselves, climbing over a balcony to rescue the animal from the apartment. Coverage by the portal dnevnik.hr spread the story well beyond the neighbourhood. The man responsible now faces consequences on two separate fronts. His boss came forward to say he is currently receiving an extraordinary dismissal, in effect immediate termination from his job. Croatian law treats serious animal abuse as a criminal offence, so police work will continue even after the disciplinary matter is settled.
